Hints on pronunciation for foreigners

This is a poem about the English Language. It tells us about the difficult pronounciation of words and states that it can be a student's nightmare. It states that English is a funny language. Then the poet has written some rhyming words, hiccough, thorough, laugh and through. Then the poet appreciates us that we have done a good work by understanding these words.

After that we come to know about some of the familiar traps, heard, looks like beard but sounds like bird, and dead which sounds like bed not bead. So be careful and don't call it deed. Then it states some more confusing words and their pronounciation.

A good poem in my opinion, but very confusing. Tricky words chosen by the poet.

A method in Vedic Mathematics

Vedic mathematics is similar to mental mathematics but has methods which help in mental calculations. I will discuss some methods which can be used in some basic calculations which take time.

For Example if we want to know the square of numbers ending in 5-
45 multiplied by 45 is 2025.
55 multiplied by 55 is 3025
65 multiplied by 65 is 4225
75 multiplied by 75 is 5625
85 multiplied by 85 is 7225
.......and so on.

With this method, first we multiply the five in each number, the calculations will be correct only if the tens place is same. For example- 65 x 65, 75 x 75 etc.
in 65 x 65, multiply 5 to the other 5 and you will get 25.
Carry over 1 and add it to and of the two numbers. now you have-
75
65
----
25

Multiply 6 and 7. Then the whole answer is 4225. You may try this with 75 x 75 and so on.

You can even multiply 115 x 115-
115
115
---
First- 5 x 5 25

Carry over 1 and add it to 11.-
125
115
---

Multiply 12 with 11 13225

The answer of the multiplication of 115 x 115 is 13225.
Similarly, you can multiply digits ending in 5 but should have the same tens and hundreds.

Measurement

We all must be familiar with the importance of measurement in our day to day life. You must be familiar with the SI units of mass, time, temperature and weight.
The SI units of the following are-
NEWTON- SI unit of weight
SECOND- SI unit of time
KILOGRAM- SI unit of mass
KELVIN- SI unit of temperature

FORMULAS:
Formula relating mass and weight:
By Newton's law of motion
WEIGHT= M multiplied with g
Where- M- Mass of the body
G- Acceleration due to gravity
With the help of this formula, we are able to explain: why the weight a body in space is 0?

WEIGHT= M multiplied with g
= m multiplied with 0(as acceleration of gravity in space is 0)
= 0

DENSITY= MASS upon VOLUME

Things to remember:
A physical balance is used for the measurement of mass accurately.
A spring balance is used to measure the weight of a body at a given place.
A hydrometer is a device which is used to measure the density of liquids.

Adventures around the World

Mr. Phileas Fogg was an English gentleman who lived in Saville Row in London. He was unmarried and seemed to have no relatives. He didn't hold a regular job but he seemed quite rich. He went to the club every day. He didn't go around town too much. Mr. Phileas Fogg was said to be a gentleman with an orderly mind and regular habits, a person who lived by the clock. He did the same things everyday.

On October 2 1872, Mr. Fogg had engaged a new servant Passepartout. He had fired the previous servant because he had brought in shaving water which was two degrees colder. Passepartout was a talkative Frenchman, who used to do many different jobs before coming to to Mr.Fogg.

Mr. Fogg used to daily go to the club at 11:30 a.m. Passepartout found a program of the daily routine of the house. After reading the program, he came to know that Mr. Fogg did everything timely.

While playing cards, there was discussion about a bank robbery. Someone mentioned that the world is a big place to hide. Then Mr. Fogg said that it is possible to go around the world in just 80 days. He then put a bet that he would travel around the world in just 80 days.

Mr. Phileas Fogg and Passepartout then left for their tour. They had many adventures in their way, one of them was: When Mr. Fogg saw a woman being taken for sacrifice, he quickly saved her and ran away from the procession. He then offered to take her to Hong Kong. Then he came to know that her relative had left two years ago. After that Mr. Fogg, Passepartout and the escaped woman Aouda had nail biting adventures. On the evening of 7th December 1872, Mr. Fogg reached reached back home on the same time he had stated, 8:25 p.m. and 55 seconds.
